Crib bumpers are an issue for debate. They are secured to the sides of the crib and are not likely to interfere with the baby’s breathing; however, many pediatricians argue that they impede air circulation around the crib. Because of these problems, there have been new types of bumpers being designed. The confusion over crib bumpers in part stems from the fact that even now they are packaged together with most baby bedding. There are several opinions on crib bumpers; parents should use their judgment and decide whether or not to use them.
